紀行家 菅江真澄考 (白神・津軽・道南編1)A Study of Masumi Sugae (Tsugaru/Donan Part 1)
菅江真澄は天明8年(1788)年7月に津軽半島宇鉄(外が浜町)から北海道松前町に渡った。
In July 1788, Masumi Sugae left Utsutetsu (Sotogahama-cho) on the Tsugaru Peninsula for the town of Matsumae in Hokkaido.

予てより円空に興味を抱いていた真澄。蝦夷に大量の円空仏があると知り、渡航計画を立てていたようだ。
「率土ガ浜づたひ」の記録に寄れば、北海道へ渡るため三厩(みんまや)村(現:外ヶ浜町)へやってくる。
三厩には義経伝説(ここから大陸に渡り成吉思汗になった)があり、義経寺もある。
真澄は戯れ言と一笑に付したようだ。
Masumi had been interested in Enku for some time. It seems that he had learned that there were a large number of Enku Buddhist monuments in Yezo and was planning to travel there.
According to the record of "Sotogahama Hazutahi," he came to the village of Minmaya (now Sotogahama-cho) in order to cross to Hokkaido. In Mimaya, there is a legend of Yoshitsune (who traveled to the continent from here and became Narikishikikan), and there is also a Yoshitsune temple.
Masumi seems to have dismissed it as a joke.

さて三厩に着くと、ちょうど幕府の巡検が来ており宿が取れない。
まあ今のインバウンドで都市部の宿が軒並み満室といった感じか。
なぜ巡検が来ていたか。それは外国船がたくさん現れていたからだ。
津軽藩や松前藩は幕府から外国船に注意しろと通達も出ていたのだ。
When I arrived at Mimaya, I could not find a place to stay due to the inspection by the Shogunate.
Well, I guess the inbound travelers are now filling up all the hotels in the city area.
Why were the inspectors there? It was because many foreign vessels were showing up.
The Tsugaru and Matsumae clans were notified by the Shogunate to be careful of foreign ships.
外国船と言えば、飛び出してくる吉田松陰!
時代は真澄より後だが、津軽半島の外ヶ浜街道(下北半島が見える方)を歩き回り(もっとも竜飛岬まで行かず途中から日本海側の七つ滝へ出ている)外国船の動向を探っている。
さて、そんなあおりを喰らった真澄は、仕方なくその先の宇鉄で紹介された民家に投宿した。
しかし、船はすぐに出航しない。「東風(やませ)が吹かないと船は出せない」と云うのだ。
Speaking of foreign ships, Yoshida Shoin pops up!
Although later in age than Masumi, he roamed the Tsugaru Peninsula's Sotogahama Kaido (from which the Shimokita Peninsula can be seen), (not going as far as Cape Ryubi, but out to Nanatsutaki on the Sea of Japan side) to investigate the movements of foreign vessels.
Masumi, having been caught in the crossfire, had no choice but to stay at a private house introduced to him by U-Tetsu.
However, the ship did not leave immediately. He was told that the ship would not depart until the east wind blew.
そこで暫くは龍飛崎を観たりして過ごしている。
「やませが吹くと冷害になる」は青森の常識で農家は吹いてくれるなと思うが、青函を行来する船は複雑な海流を渡るため、多少は強い風を欲しがる。
職業により常識は非常識になる。
So, for the time being, I am spending my time looking at Ryuhozaki.
However, the ships that sail between Aomori and Hakodate need some strong winds to cross the complicated ocean currents.
Common sense becomes nonsense depending on one's occupation.
ようやく「やませ」が吹きだし、松前までの渡航は悪天候で出発したようだ。
最初は小舟で海の上で大型船に乗る。真澄が寂しい漁村と書いたように、たしかに宇鉄の港は小さいから大型船は接岸できなかったのだろう。
竜飛岬までは穏やかな海も、その先は死にものぐるいだったと真澄は書いている。
「やませ」は農業にとって、来て欲しくない風だが、青函海峡は海流が複雑であり北海道へは、風に後押しされないと渡れなかった。
Finally, the "Yamase" began to blow, and the voyage to Matsumae seemed to have departed in bad weather.
At first, we took a small boat and boarded a large ship on the sea. As Masumi wrote that it was a lonely fishing village, it is true that the port of Uetsu was so small that large ships could not dock there.
The sea was calm as far as Cape Ryubi, but beyond that point, the people were desperate to survive, Masumi wrote.
The winds of the Yamase were not the kind of winds that farmers wanted, but the currents in the Seikan Strait were so complicated that it was impossible to cross to Hokkaido without being propelled by the winds.
外ヶ浜町に入ると風力発電の羽が看板になっていた。強風で折れたものをリサイクルしたかどうかは定かでないが、竜飛岬は風が相当強い。まさにこのような風の中で出港したのだろう。
As we entered the town of Sotogahama, we saw a wind turbine feather as a sign. It is not clear if they recycled the ones that were broken by the strong winds, but the winds are quite strong at Cape Ryuhi. It is likely that the ship sailed in exactly this kind of wind. Windmill feather sign

It is as if all the inns in the city were fully booked due to the current inbound tourism.
Why were the inspections coming? It was because many foreign vessels were showing up.

Now, Masumi, having suffered such a stir, had no choice but to pitch up at a private house that was introduced to her at U-Tetsu, just down the road.
However, the boat did not leave immediately.
He was told that the boat would not depart until the east wind blew.
So he spent some time looking around Ryuhobizaki.
「やませが吹くと冷害になる」は青森の常識で農家は吹いてくれるなと思うが、青函を行来する船は複雑な海流を渡るため、多少は強い風を欲しがる。

ようやく「やませ」が吹きだし、松前までの渡航は悪天候で出発したようだ。

今回、日本海側の突風を受けて小泊から竜飛岬へ竜泊ラインを走ったが、湾側に出ると風は相当穏やかだった。まさにこのような風の中で出港したのだろう。

This time, we traveled along the Ryudomari line from Kodomari to Cape Ryuhi in gusty winds on the Sea of Japan side, but once we reached the bay side, the winds were considerably calmer. It is likely that they sailed in exactly this kind of wind.

この法律で、労働者301人以上の大企業(300人以下の中小企業は努力義務)は、女性の活躍推進に向けた行動計画の策定などが新たに義務づけられることとなります。
Under this law, large companies with 301 or more workers (small and medium-sized companies with 300 or fewer workers are obligated to make efforts) will be newly obligated to formulate action plans and other measures to promote the advancement of women.

それで・・・???So ….???
平安時代は女性宅に婿入りが普通ですし、貞永式目(鎌倉時代)の中で、財産相続権を男女平等で定めている。江戸時代には「三行半」(今で言えば「あんたはダメだから出て行きなさい」かな)を女性から突きつけることができた。
In the Heian period (794-1185), it was common to be groomed in a woman's home, and in the Jouei Shikimoku (Kamakura period), the right to inherit property was stipulated as equal between men and women. In the Edo period, "sangyohan" (or "you're no good, so get out" today) could be thrust upon a woman.

これから田植え時期で、早乙女の田植え行事が各地で行われる。
これを見れば明らかに田植えするのは女で、男は頑張って~!と声を掛け囃し立て女性たちの気分を乗せるだけの役目。
It is now time for rice planting, and Saotome women's rice planting events will be held in many places.

写真は北広島町で行われる国の重要無形民俗文化財「壬生の花田植」などは有名で、「芸術は爆発だ~!」とおっしゃった岡本太郎さん(実は民族学者)がこの田植えを見て「エロチシズム」と表現してます。

もう資料を集めれば分かりますが、男女平等どころか女性中心社会が普通だったんです。

どうやら男女差別は明治時代の長州や薩摩の悪政を全国バージョンにしたことによることが分かります。
明治の民法で「家父長制」ができ、女性の相続権がなくなり、その無権利状態は現在の憲法まで続いているのです。
Apparently, the gender discrimination is due to the national version of the bad policies of Choshu and Satsuma in the Meiji era.
The Meiji Civil Code created a "patriarchal system" that eliminated women's right to inheritance, and this state of nonentitlement has continued to the present Constitution.

ブログをお読みいただいている方々に改めてお詫び申し上げます。
民俗学の祖、菅江真澄の辿った道を筆者自らで歩いており、既に膨大な資料を集めてあります。
しかし本業の旅も年間で全国に出ており、休筆しております。
昨年は津軽半島の真澄が辿った街道ツアーなどの仕事もしており、今年も青森で2つの街道巡りを日程未定ですが行う予定です。
いつか執筆復帰の予定として、予告編の写真を数枚アップしますのでご容赦ください。

We apologize again to those who have been reading our blog.
I have been walking the path taken by Masumi Sugae, the founder of folklore, and have already collected a vast amount of data.
However, I have been traveling throughout Japan during the year in my day job, and have been taking a break from writing.
Last year, I also worked on a tour of the roads that Masumi followed in Tsugaru Peninsula, and this year I plan to do two more road tours in Aomori, although the dates are yet to be determined.
